time flies...

Wow!  It's been so long since I've posted anything.  We've had a really fun last few weeks... The Preservation went to Mardi Gras in Lafayette & we played a really awesome show at the Blue Moon Saloon.  I love Louisiana!  I can't wait until we go on tour this summer...

A couple of days ago, I was asked to do another art show at the end of March & I'm so excited!  Mario has been working really hard at some awesome paintings for his upcoming art show @ The Baltimore House & I've been waiting to get inspired (and what can do that better than a deadline?)  I've been trying to think of things that I can work on to sell at the show so I decided to inspire myself...

clutches

Mario & I did an art show around Christmas time and I have several things I should put up on my etsy site...This week, I posted two of my cute clutches that I hope to soon make more of!

I use this awesome yarn that is made out of post consumer recycled plastic bottles & acrylic.  It's really soft and is perfect for this purse.  The button closure is crocheted out of the same yarn and really makes the clutch look classic.

The inside lining is 100% cotton and specifically chosen to go with the outer color.  There's a little ID/business card-sized pocket that makes the clutch perfect to use as a going out purse or even a wallet.
I sold one that I didn't get to take a picture of, but I'm thinking it was so cute I should re-make it!  I also have a really pretty greenish colored one that I may post pictures of later.  I think I should go work on some more.  Color suggestions are welcome :)

rewind

Wow.  It's been too long since I've blogged (I was stalling until I could upload my pictures on a computer & my mom was nice enough to let me on her new one!)  So I'm posting pictures from Rachel's birthday & the recipe I used to make her delicious, gluten-free chocolate polenta cake.

Gluten Free Chocolate Polenta Cake
-1 c. water
-1/4 c. cornmeal
-1/2 c. butter
-6 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate, chopped
-1 tsp gluten free vanilla
-1/4 c. sugar plus 2 tbsp
-4 egg yolks
-5 egg whites

Preheat oven to 300 degrees & lightly grease an 8 1/2 inch springform pan.

Combine water and cornmeal in a small saucepan on medium heat.  Stir occasionally & bring to boil.  Reduce heat to low.  Cover & cook mixture until thickened (about 7 minutes).  Remove from heat.

After you let polenta stand for 2 minutes, add butter, chocolate and vanilla.  Stir until melted.  Allow to cool.
Place 1/4 c. sugar and egg yolks into a small bowl.  Beat at medium speed until mixture is thick.  Add chocolate polenta mixture.

Beat egg whites in a separate small bowl on high speed until soft peaks form.  Continue beating & add in 2 tbsp sugar until glossy & stiff peaks form.  Fold in chocolate polenta mixture.

Pour into springform pan & bake until middle is set (I had to bake it for about 55 minutes) at least 40 minutes.  Cool completely.  Top with delicious chocolate whipped cream icing....

Chocolate Whipped Cream Icing

-1 c. heavy whipping cream
-1/2 tsp gluten free vanilla extract
-1 1/2 tbsp sugar
-2 tbsp cocoa powder
-3 tbsp cream cheese

Combine all above ingredients.  Make sure they are cold (if whipping cream has been out of the refrigerator I recommend letting the mixture cool in the fridge for a bit).  Beat (or whip) on high speed until stiff peaks form.

Use to top cake.  Spread with a plastic spatula.  Add strawberries if desired.

How delicious!

once upon a time...

Hello from Ana & Bianca!  We've been having fun playing on Nana's new computer....

I know I haven't been posting a lot lately, but last week was REALLY busy!  The Preservation was in the recording studio for a couple of days, and we're all really excited about what we accomplished.  What was just going to be a few song demo is going to become an actual album.  We'll probably record more after we return from Mardi Gras.

Mario & I also started playing music at the school my niece goes to...I love playing music with little kids!  They are so cute and fun to be around.

Bianca and Ava are over at our house right now watching The Little Mermaid, so since I have no computer to upload my pictures from Rachel's birthday party on, I'm going to make this a fairy tale post...

I have this ^ old fairy tale book that has all of these great illustrations in it

I found this on weheartit, but it's by someone named Eugenio Recuenco, he has a few other awesome fairy tale pictures on weheartit

annie leibovitz's amazing take on beauty and the beast...is that Drew Barrymore?

Ok, I'm going to go watch Skuttle & the gang ruin Ursula's wedding with my cute niece.
